Environmental Information Fair: April 19

The fourth annual Environmental Information Fair takes place on Tuesday, April 19, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in  the Campbell Student Union Quad. The fair, sponsored by EVERGREEN, will feature exhibits, demonstrations, and vendors.

EVERGREEN is the college’s all-volunteer environmental organization. The group has been responsible for such campuswide initiatives as the recycling of plastic, glass, and metal in academic and administrative buildings and in the residence halls; recycling programs for CDs, printer cartridges, and batteries; and bringing the Buffalo Blue Bicycle Program, a bicycle-lending program, to campus.

The group also tracks the college’s participation in RecycleMania, a national competition that promotes waste reduction on college and university campuses. When students leave the residence halls in May, Evergreen’s most ambitious endeavor—Don’t Throw It Out—takes place.

The Environmental Information Fair serves as EVERGREEN’s annual observation of Earth Day, Friday, April 22. The goal of this event is to raise awareness of environmental initiatives on campus and in the surrounding community, and to promote a cleaner Western New York. Prizes and giveaways will include passes to the Buffalo Zoo and tree seedlings. This year’s participants include the Hawk Creek Wildlife Center, Modern Recycling, Friends of the Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge, Smart Center Buffalo, West Herr Honda, and others.
