The annual Arthur O. Eve Educational Opportunity Program Honors Convocation will take place Thursday, May 5, at 3:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center at Rockwell Hall.

This year, the EOP Honors Convocation recognizes 411 EOP students who have achieved a GPA of at least 3.0 during the spring or fall 2010 semester, or whose cumulative GPA is greater than 3.0. The event also honors outstanding community service, recognizes campus achievements, and celebrates all who are part of and support the program.
The theme of this year’s convocation is "Imagine, Believe, Achieve: Striving Toward Excellence.”

Program highlights include a DVD screening of testimonials from graduating seniors and awards presentations.

Robert Baxter, '94, '03, will receive the EOP Distinguished Alumnus Award. Baxter, a science teacher at Westminster Community Charter School, is the recipient of the prestigious 2010 Milken National Educator Award and was recently named an "Outstanding Citizen of 2010" by the Buffalo News.

A 50/50 raffle will support international student Japanese earthquake relief fund efforts. A book signing by graduating EOP student Christina Foster will take place outside of the auditorium.

More than 750 students are enrolled in EOP, which serves as an undergraduate college admissions and support program for students facing economic and academic challenges. “Since its inception, graduation rates have continued to grow," said Yanick Jenkins, EOP director. "This reflects the commitment and dedication of our highly skilled staff."

The program was established in 1967 at Buffalo State by former New York State Assemblyman and Deputy Speaker Arthur O. Eve, and was the first of its kind in the SUNY system.
