A performance from Holly Bewlay, assistant professor of music, will kick off the 2011-2012 Faculty and Friends Concert Series, Monday, September 19, at 7:30 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center at Rockwell Hall.
A solo voice recital with accompaniment from faculty pianist Emily Boyce, the program will include works by John Corigliano, John Carter, Benjamin Britten, and others.
"As a non-native speaker, I am thrilled to express this vocal music in English," said Bewlay. "I adore these songs and something about them is connected to my inner-being."
Born in Pusan, South Korea, Bewlay received her vocal training at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, where she received a bachelor’s in music. She completed her master's in music and doctorate in musical arts at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. Bewlay joined the music faculty at Buffalo State College in 2005 as a lecturer and was appointed to the rank of assistant professor in 2008. She serves as vocal coordinator, teaches applied voice, and vocal pedagogy.
Bewlay has been featured as a soprano soloist with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus and has performed recitals in concert halls throughout the United States.
Accompanying pianist Emily Boyce, associate professor of music, teaches piano, class piano, and accompanying. Boyce has appeared as soloist, collaborator, and lecturer throughout the United States and China.
