Fairleigh-Dickinson Edges Softball in Opener
CLERMONT, Fla.—A three-run fourth inning by Fairleigh-Dickinson (NJ) (6-4) doomed Buffalo State (0-1) as the Bengals fell 3-2 in the season opener under the lights tonight at the USA National Training Center.
Aimee Fisher (Hamburg/ Frontier) was 1 for 2 with a pair of RBIs, but took the loss on the mound, pitching 3 1/3 innings, allowing three runs, two earned, and struck out four. Jenna Frieling (E. Amherst/ Williamsville North) allowed two hits and had five strikeouts in scoreless relief. Nicole Maher (Waterloo/Waterloo) 2 for 3 at the plate.
Fisher opened the scoring with an RBI double in the second inning that scored Jessica Mooney (Tonawanda/ Kenmore West). Fisher extended the lead with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning, plating Jordan Banach (Cheektowaga/ Maryvale). FDU pulled ahead in the bottom of the fourth, however, scoring three runs on an error and three consecutive base hits.
Buffalo State will play Bethel (MN) tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.
