Ferguson Planetarium Announces Winter Program Schedule

Share
The Whitworth Ferguson Planetarium has released its Winter Season schedule, Jan. 25 - March 8, a sure remedy for the winter blahs. The ongoing program, Diamonds of Winter, provides a look at the winter skies. Through Feb. 9 at 8 p.m. there will be a special tribute to the lost crews of NASA's Apollo 1, Challenger and Columbia. All of the incidents occurred at the same point in winter. The event coincides with NASA's official Day of Remembrance.

On Feb. 20, 7 p.m., at the start of the Lunar Eclipse, there will be observation, weather permitting, and a program sponsored by the Buffalo State College Astronomy Club.

In addition, the planetarium is also presenting Skies of the South Seas, set in the outback regions of New Zealand. Observers will see an entirely different perspective on the heavens below the equator, which cannot be seen, from northern latitudes. The southern hemisphere is currently in the summer season, so cold temperatures are not an issue.

Each show is $5 per person. The schedule for Diamonds of the Winter is Fridays at 7 p.m. and Saturdays at 2 p.m. Skies of the South Seas runs Fridays at 8 p.m. and Saturdays at 3 p.m. Tickets can be reserved through the planetarium office at (716) 878-4911 or at the door 30 minutes before each show, some restrictions apply. Group arrangements can be made via phone or www.fergusonplanetarium.net.
