Find Unique Gifts at Student Art Sale

For the 18th time, Buffalo State fine arts, design, and art education students will sell their creations on campus—just in time for the holidays. On December 3 and 4 in Upton Hall's Czurles-Nelson Gallery, shoppers will find handcrafted jewelry, pottery, scarves, paintings, photos, prints, and sculptures ranging in the annual Student Art Sale. The sale runs from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday and from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Prices range from $2 for notecards to several hundred dollars for a large painting.

"Not only is there a wide range of art, but the prices are much more reasonable than you’d find at a gallery or specialty store," said Carol Townsend, associate professor of design who has served as the sale’s faculty adviser since its inception. "Decorate your home or office or give the art as gifts. Either way, you’ll be supporting our students."

Students get to keep 75 percent of their sales with the remainder going to help defray the cost of next year’s event and to support the students' individual departments and programs.

In 2013, there were more than 900 works from which to choose. This year, Townsend is expecting even more. Through the years, the sale has grown to an extremely popular event. "We do not know in advance what will be submitted, but one thing is for sure—the selection is never disappointing," she added.
