FT. MYERS, Fla.--Buffalo State (1-1) opened its season today with a 4-0 loss to Smith College (MA), but freshman pitcher Aimee Fisher’s (Hamburg/Frontier) perfect game led the Bengals’ to an 8-0, six-inning win over St. Lawrence in the second game at the Cape Coral Sports Complex.

In the opener, Smith scored all four runs on four hits in the fifth inning. Rachel Perucki (Springwater/Honeoye Falls) and Jessica Mooney (Tonawanda/Kenmore West) each went 2 for 3 for the Bengals, accounting for all four of the team’s hits in the game. Nicole Sabuda (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) took a no-hitter into the fifth inning, but finished the game allowing five hits and three earned runs, while striking out three.

In the second game, Fisher retired all 18 batters she faced and struck out 10 in her first collegiate start. Head Coach Sandy Hollander earned her 399th career victory as her Bengals scored early and often. Sabuda paced the offense, going 2 for 4 with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored. Lindsey Matheis (Hamburg/Williamsville South) went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, and Jolene Banach (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) was 1 for 2 with an RBI.

Buffalo State will face Elms (MA) tomorrow at 11 a.m. and will play New England College (NH) at 4 p.m. Both games will be played at the Lee County Softball Complex.
