Five Bengals Earn All-Region Softball Honors

Nadine Sirianni (Niagara Falls/Niagara Falls) and Emily Goldyn (Lancaster/Lancaster) led five Buffalo State players selected to the NCAA Division III Northeast All-Region Team on the First Team and are now eligible for All-America voting. Lauren Mruk (Lancaster/Lancaster) earned Second Team honors, and Liz Beiter (N. Tonawanda/N. Tonawanda) and Laurie Hutten (Tonawanda/Kenmore West) were named to the Third Team.

Sirianni, a junior, started all 40 games this season in centerfield. She hit .309 and led the Bengals with 28 RBI and matched the team lead with 11 doubles. In the field, Sirianni did not commit an error on 67 chances.

Goldyn was selected as a designated player. A freshman, she finished the season with a .294 batting average, and led the team with 16 extra-base hits, including 11 doubles and three homeruns.

Mruk, a freshman third baseman, led the Bengals with a .319 batting average and five homeruns. She also tallied nine doubles and 24 RBI.

Beiter made the most of her senior seaon on the mound, as she led the Bengals with a 13-4 record and posted a 1.70 ERA. She finished her career second in school history with 35 wins.

Hutten, another freshman, was selected as a utility player, as she split time between left field, second base, and short stop. The team's leadoff hitter, she led the Bengals with 45 hits 11 stolen bases and had a .317 batting average.

Buffalo State finished the season with a 26-14 record and finished third in the SUNYAC playoffs.
