Football Falls to Wesley, 17-0
Kevin Nelson ran 27 times for 133 yards and two scores to helping visiting Wesley (2-0/1-0) surge past Buffalo State (0-3, 0-1), 17-0, today at Coyer Field in an Atlantic Central Football Conference matchup.
Wesley recorded the only points of the first half on a 20-yard field goal off the foot of Chris Carlson with 8:30 to play in the second quarter. After a scoreless third quarter, the Wolverines extended their lead to 10-0 when Nelson scored his first touchdown from three yards out. Nelson scored again on a 13-yard run with 6:08 remaining, set up by a Rocky Myers interception of a Mike Mikolaichik pass. The Bengals drove the ball deep into Wesley territory in the waning minutes, but turned the ball over on downs, before the Wolverines ran the clock out.
Wesley totaled 292 yards of offense, compared to 209 by Buffalo State. Both teams fumbled the ball four times, with Wesley losing three and Buffalo State losing one.
Wesley quarterback Chris Warrick finished the game 11-of 25 for 132 yards and one interception. William Buck, Mario Harris and Myers each finished with nine tackles.
Buffalo State‘s offense was led by James Perkins, who carried the ball 26 times for 87 yards. Mikolaichik finished 18-of-36 for 136 yards. Perry Taglienti led the defense with 11 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, and an interception.
Buffalo State will host Cortland next Saturday at 1 p.m.
