SALISBURY, MD—Leroy Satchell rushed for 189 yards and five touchdowns to lead Salisbury (5-1/3-0) past Buffalo State (1-4/0-3), 66-20, in an Atlantic Central Football Conference game today at Sea Gull Stadium.

Salisbury, ranked 17th in the latest D3football.com national poll, gained 627 total yards from scrimmage, as the two teams combined for 1,125 total yards of offense.

Salisbury opened up a 21-0 lead in the opening quarter, jump started by a 14-yard touchdown run by Satchell. After a Bengals’ fumble on the ensuing drive, the Sea Gulls found the end zone again just 1:24 later with a 54-yard catch by Francis Bryant from Travis Peters. Satchell found the end zone again on the Gulls next possession, this time scoring from 19 yards out.

Buffalo State climbed back into the game early in the second quarter when Mike Mikolaichik found Greg Meyer for an 11-yard scoring completion. The Bengals forced a Salisbury fumble on its next possession, and need just three plays to score again when Mikolaichik and Meyer combined again, this time from 44 yards.

Salisbury extended its lead back to 28-14 late in the opening half on Satchell’s third score of the day, a seven yard run.

The Sea Gulls continued to carry the play in the second half, scoring on the first play from scrimmage, when Satchell got free and ran 46 yards for the score. Brock Boland booted a 39-yard field goal on Salisbury’s next possession to increase the lead to 38-14.

Buffalo State attempted to mount a rally later in the quarter, when Bob Vesona scored his first career touchdown on a 15-yard scamper. Following a blocked extra point, Salisbury quelled any thoughts of a Bengals comeback with Satchell’s fifth score of the day, a 65-yard run on the very next play from scrimmage.

The Sea Gulls added three more scores in the fourth quarter to close out the scoring. Joseph Early reeled in a 86-yard catch and run from Peters, Bryant scored his second touchdown of the day with a 17-yard run, and Ronnie Shockley had a 48-yard touchdown run on his only touch of the day.

Peters was just 6 of 9 for 179 yards with the two scores for Salisbury. Early finished the game with two catches for exactly 100 yards. Justin Ritter led the defense with eight tackles and a fumble recovery, and Bryon Westbrook had four tackles and an interception.

Vesona led the Bengals’ offense with a career-high 156 yards on 15 carries. Mikolaichik was 18 of 34 for 242 with two touchdowns and an interception. Meyer had a career day with seven catches for 135 yards. Matt Tarasek led the defense with 10 tackles and two fumble recoveries.

Buffalo State will host the Newport News Apprentice School next Saturday for “Homecoming” in its first home game since September 10.
