Fourth Annual Conference for the Study of Understanding Community and Peace to be Held Oct. 24

Buffalo State College’s fourth annual Conference for the Study of Understanding Community and Peace, “Innovative Strategies for Understanding Community and Peace,” will be held this year on United Nation’s Day, Monday, Oct. 24, 2005. The day-long event will be held in the Rockwell Hall Auditorium on the campus at 1300 Elmwood Ave.
Dr. Muriel A. Howard, president of Buffalo State College, will make opening remarks at 9:10 a.m.
The peace conference will include:
a presentation by Shakoor Aljuwani, chairperson of Cooperative Life, a federation of cooperatives in New England and New York State and a partner in the United Neighborhoods International Consulting Group (9:35 a.m.);
readings by Buffalo State College and Campus West students on the conference theme (10:10 a.m. and 1:35 p.m.);
a multi-media musical presentation, “The Sounds of Freedom,” by Charles Mancuso, professor of music (10:55 a.m.);
a performance by the Buffalo State Chamber Choir directed by Thomas Witakowski, associate professor of music (1:15 p.m.);
a presentation by Dr. Zahid Bokhari, fellow of the Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding at Georgetown University (2:15 p.m.);
a presentation by Markus Pallek, associate legal officer of the Office of Legal Affairs, United Nations;
a presentation, “The Need for a Global Partnership for Peace as Defined by the United Nations,” by Michelle Robert, Buffalo State College graduate student in Creative Studies; Indira Rajagopalan, Buffalo State College graduate student in Student Personnel Administration; and Robert Zack, St. John Fisher College (3:40 p.m.)
Tables in the lobby of Rockwell Hall will hold displays from the International Institute of Buffalo, Jewish Family Services, Catholic Charities, Journey’s End Resettlement Services, Vive, Inc

The event is free and open to the public.
