Fredonia Survives at Men’s Hockey SUNYAC Quarterfinals

BUFFALO, NY—Will Barlow (Oakville, ON) scored 2:18 into the second overtime period to give fifth-seeded Fredonia (13-9-4) a 2-1 victory over host Buffalo State (12-12-2) in a SUNYAC Quarterfinal game tonight at the Ice Arena.

Fredonia’s Kevin Amborski (Bloomfield, NY) and Buffalo State’s Sean Sheehan (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) battled for more than 82 minutes, facing 43 shots each. Amborski made 42 shots, and Sheehan, a senior, three-time All-Conference pick, closed his career in spectacular fashion despite the loss, stopping 41 shots.

Fredonia opened the scoring way back in the second period on a goal by Kraig Kuzma (Muskegon, MI) with assists from Barlow and Bryan Goudy (Pt. Huron, MI).

Buffalo State pulled even at 1-1 just 1:14 into the third frame on Jason Hill’s (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) 14th goal of the season with assists from Tyler Soehner (Baden, ON/Waterloo Oxford) and Mike DeMarco (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls).

Barlow ended the game early in the fifth period with assist an assist from Goudy.

Fredonia earned a berth in the semifinals at No. 1 Oswego on Saturday at 7 p.m.
