Pixita del Prado Hill, associate professor of elementary education and reading, was awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant to teach at Universidad Mayor in Santiago, Chile, for the spring 2011 semester.

Her work will support Chile’s Ministry of Education’s goal of English proficiency for all Chileans by working with teacher candidates in the English education program at Universidad Mayor.

“I will also work on developing partnerships between University Mayor and Buffalo State,” said del Prado Hill. Through the Global Book Project initiated by the Elementary Education and Reading Department, she will work with Kim Truesdell, associate professor, Elementary Education and Reading Department, to connect  Buffalo State teacher candidates with their counterparts at Universidad Mayor. “We plan to use technology such as Skype and online discussion boards to exchange children’s literature ideas and to make the project international,” said del Prado Hill.

The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the United States government. Recipients of Fulbright grants are selected on the basis of academic or professional achievement as well as demonstrated leadership potential in their fields.
