The GIs of Comedy's "Task Force: Funny Tour" comes to the Performing Arts Center at Rockwell Hall on Saturday, November 2, to record a special that will air on Comedy Central (and be available on DVD) in 2014. The show takes place at 7:00 p.m.
Created by Young Alumnus Achievement Award Winner Thom Tran, '04, (pictured left) a Western New York native and former combat veteran of the United States Army, the GIs of Comedy also includes U.S. Air Force Reserve Major Jose Sarduy (host of Nuvo TV's "Stand Up & Deliver") and former U.S. Army Private First Class Tom Irwin, also a Buffalo native.
Since 2010, the group has toured military installations and comedy clubs all over the country bringing laughter to their brothers and sisters in uniform as well civilian supporters. The group has also raised and donated over $10,000 to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, a charity that provides college scholarships for the children of U.S. Special Operations Forces killed in the line of duty.
The show will present a rare opportunity for Buffalo State communication students to take part in the production of a taped performance.
“I’ll have a small crew of advisers with me from Hollywood, but students will be doing the bulk of the production work on this special,” said Tran. “Alums like Tom Calderone and Tom Fontana helped me get into broadcasting—I’d love to help current students jump-start their careers.”
Seating is limited for the general public as many of the seats will be filled by members of the U.S. military.
Tickets are $20 general and $5 for Buffalo State students (1 ticket per ID) and are available at the Rockwell Hall Box Office (1300 Elmwood Ave.), by calling (716) 878-3005 or online. The Rockwell Hall Box Office hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.The
