Governor Cuomo Visits SUNY Buffalo State to Sign Anti-Heroin Legislation

Gov. Andrew Cuomo visited SUNY Buffalo State today to sign a new anti-heroin legislation package into law. Joining state political leaders, law enforcement representatives, and members of the college administration at a ceremonial bill signing held at the Burchfield Penney Art Center, Cuomo called the law a comprehensive approach to addressing the heroin epidemic.

"We are doing everything that government can do," said Cuomo. "But this is not a problem that government alone can resolve. It’s a fight we have to fight together."

The state Legislature recently passed 11 bills designed to expand public education, improve access to rehabilitation programs, and enforce stricter penalties for heroin distribution. In addition, the bills include provisions requiring insurance companies to cover addiction treatment.

Cuomo last visited Buffalo State in June 2013 to discuss the START-UP NY bill.
