Cassandra (Cassie) Chu, a Buffalo State graphic design major, recently earned a spot on the American Advertising Federation Most Promising Multicultural Students Program.

She was chosen as one of the top 50 most promising minority college seniors across the country and invited to attend a fully paid conference in New York City the week of February 11. The conference included networking, interviewing, and industry immersion opportunities with advertising professionals. During the conference, Chu shared this post on Instagram

“What a deserving student Cassie is,” said Carol Townsend, associate professor of art and design. “Cassie created the publicity design for ‘Interconnect,’ a triple campus collaboration I spearheaded. She was a dream to work with. It became more of a collaborative effort with a peer.”

In her application to the program in October, Chu included her portfolio, resume, transcript, a recommendation from Stanley Friesen, associate professor of graphic design/communication design, and a personal tagline: “Do it before you’re ready.”

“I answered questions about advertising, such as why diversity is important, how to stay current in the industry, and what I can contribute to the field,” Chu said. “Much to my surprise, I was chosen in November.”
