This weekend the Great Lakes Guitar Society will present an event dedicated to the artistry of the six-stringed instrument. Rise of the National Style, the guitar society’s fifth annual festival and competition, will be held on the Buffalo State campus, September 12–14. The event is presented by the Buffalo State Guitar Club and sponsored by the Grant Allocation Committee.
Along with concerts, roundtable discussions, and master classes, the festival will include juried competitions in performance, arranging, soloing, and more.
"With great help and support from the Grant Allocation Committee and the Music Department, along with the Great Lakes Guitar Society and Seconda Prattica publishers, we are able to bring the highest level of performance, competition, masterclass teaching, and discussion to the Buffalo State campus with some of today's most admired performers and guitarists," said guitarist, festival performer, and lecturer of music Evan Drummond.
A lineup of acclaimed international musicians has been scheduled. Featured performances include Nicholas Goluses and the Alonso-Drummond Duo on Friday; Roland Dyens and Gaëlle Solal on Saturday; and James Piorkowski on Sunday. See full schedule.
All activities and concerts will take place in Rockwell Hall’s Louis P. Ciminelli Recital Hall and in adjacent classrooms. Events will be free to Buffalo State students and faculty. Tickets are required for all others.
