Hobart Defeats Fredonia in Shootout in Men's Hockey Invitational

The second game of the Buffalo State Invitational needed overtime and then some to determine a winner, as Hobart (0-0-1) defeated Fredonia (2-1-1) in a shootout after playing to a 3-3 tie at the end of the game.

Fredonia opend the game with a 2-0 lead, but Hobart scored twice in the final 2:25 of the first period to even the score. Fredonia took the lead again early in the second period, but the Statesmen pulled even again later in the same frame. Hobart's goals were scored by Mike Polsonetti, Mike Manos and William Brame. Joe Muli , Kyle Bozoian and Tom Briggs scored for the Blue Devils, and Matt Zeman chipped in three assists.

Although the game officially ended in a tie, Hobart won the game in a shootout when Stephen Mitacek finally broke the deadlock in the seventh round. Hobart's goaltender Adam Lavelle made 15 saves plus five in the shootout. Fredonia's Rick Cazares made 31 stops and turned aside four more in the shootout.

The tournament will wrap up tomorrow evening when Buffalo State hosts Hobart at 7 p.m.
