Hobart Wins All-Sport Invitational

BUFFALO, NY -- The 2002 Buffalo State All-Sport Invitational wrapped up this evening with Hobart earning the championship with a win over the host Bengals. Fredonia defeated Utica in the early game.

In the day's first game, Fredonia State (2-2) defeated Utica (1-3), 4-1. Jim Gilbride (Parma, OH) figured in the first three Fredonia goals, scoring the first two and assisting on the third as the Blue Devils jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in the second period. Mike Fleming (Sarnia, ONT) and Steve Greenburg (East Lansing, MI) also scored for Fredonia. Mike Levine (Sandwich, MA) recorded the lone Utica goal late in the second period. Will Hamele (Dearborn, MI) made 30 saves for the Blue Devils in the win.

In the nightcap, Hobart used a pair of late goals to earn a 4-2 victory over Buffalo State. The Statesmen took a 2-0 lead with a pair of power-play goals by Andy Kasprczak (Farmington, CT) and Brian Keane (Sherborn, MA). Buffalo State rallied to tie the score with two goals just 1:51 apart in late in the second frame by Jason Sirois (Feeding Hills, MA) and Brian Janke (Anchorage, AK). Hobart notched two quick goals by RC Schmidt (Buxton, ME) and Wesley Scott (Simi Valley, CA) at 16:25 and 16:57 of the third period to ice the game, however. Adam Levelle (Chelmsford, MA) made 26 saves for the Statesmen in the win.
