Time to get your orange out and your game face on—SUNY Buffalo State’s 2013 Homecoming and Family Weekend is coming. Four days of events, starting September 24 and running through September 28, will bring together students, faculty, staff, alumni, and accompanying family members.

“We are planning a lot of the traditional activities and have some new additions as well this year,” said Nick Horwitz Mahoney, assistant director of alumni affairs.

One new event is a powder puff football game featuring members of campus sororities. Held on Wednesday, September 25, at 4:00 p.m., the game is connected to homecoming’s annual charity drive for the Buffalo State Food Pantry and requires one canned food item for admission. Additionally, on Friday, September 27, student athletes will be collecting non-perishable foods on campus. Faculty, students, and staff who wish to donate can call (716) 878-6514.

Another homecoming tradition is the pre-tailgate party on Saturday, September 28, at 10:45 a.m. prior to the noon football game against the Ithaca College Bombers. Registration for the party is free for the first 100 alumni who complete this online form.

The annual homecoming parade and shopping cart/float competition will also precede Saturday's game. Those who want to participate in the parade should arrive at parking lot L-1 promptly at 10:00 a.m.

Many student organizations and campus departments have signed up to participate, Horwitz Mahoney said, adding that this year the West Seneca High School Marching Band will lead the parade, and the Caribbean Student Organization will bring up the rear.

“Everyone is welcome to attend and march along,” said Bernadette Gilliam, associate manager for student events.

Registration and a schedule of events is available online.
