The Honorable Judge E. Jeannette Ogden to Speak at Precollegiate Mentoring Program

On Wednesday, October 12, Buffalo City Court and Buffalo State alumna Judge E. Jeannette Ogden, '77, will provide keynote remarks about the importance of pursuing higher education during the “Precollegiate Lead to Succeed” mentoring program beginning the same day at Buffalo State.

Between 40 and 60 students from Buffalo public, private, and charter high schools are expected to attend the program that begins at 3:30 p.m. on the second floor of Bulger Communication Center, followed by Ogden’s remarks at 5:00 p.m.

This is the first in a monthly series of mentoring programs that will take place throughout the academic year with the goal of helping high school students develop leadership skills and the motivation to attend college.

Hal Payne, vice president for student affairs, created the mentoring initiative to strengthen the impact of current precollegiate programs and to expand Buffalo State’s contribution to the education of area youth. There is no cost to participate.

Students enrolled in Buffalo State’s leadership minor program, along with students interested in helping others, will serve as mentors to the high school participants, preparing them for college admission.

Upcoming programs in the monthly series, featuring community leaders from across Western New York, will focus on topics such as financial literacy and money management; taking the right high school courses for college admission; and mastering the New York State Regents Examinations.
