Indoor Track and Field Kicks Off Season at Fredonia Early Open

Buffalo State posted several impressive individual finishes in its first meet of the season today at the Fredonia Early Open.

Richard Harris (Rochester/Hilton) was the highlight of the men's side, breaking a 20-year school record, while winning the 55m hurdles with a time of 7.63. The previous record was 7.69 by Rick Ballard in 1985. Justin Muise (Kenmore/Kenmore West) started his season on the right foot with a win in the 200m dash (23.29) and was third in the 55m dash (6.69). Ken Ciolek (Limestone/Bradford Area) won the triple jump (13.09m) and placed third in the long jump (6.27m). James Howze (Amherst/Sweet Home) posted a third place showing in the 1500m run (4:27.18).

On the women's side, Mercedes Roper (Buffalo/Performing Arts) won the 55m dash (7.59) and was second in the 200m dash (28.28). Jackie Kirsch (E. Aurora/E. Aurora) placed second in the long jump (4.76m). Jamie Abbott (Pulaski/Pulaski) earned third place in the shot put (8.81m), and Sarah Gedraitis (Lockport/Akron) was third in the weight throw (10.10m).

The Bengals will compete at the Bucknell University Invite.
