While the weeks between the winter holidays and the beginning of the spring semester can seem quiet at Buffalo State, there are still plenty of fun, informative events taking place on campus.
January 7–18
Winterim
Various campus locations
Thanks to Winterim, a series of educational workshops held during winter break, Buffalo State faculty, staff, students, and their family members can learn new skills to enhance both their professional and personal lives. Established in 1985, Winterim provides a fun, relaxed learning atmosphere. Classes range from financial planning to art appreciation and are free unless otherwise noted.

Testify: Alternative Views on Society
Burchfield Penney Art Center
A four-day seasonal art happening featuring music, poetry, film, and presentations inspired by the exhibitions on view at the Burchfield Penney and by Western New York artists.
Highlights include the premiere of Unrepentant, a film by Buffalo native A.P. Ferullo (January 10); a lecture on the Burchfield Penney’s 2013 initiatives from executive director Tony Bannon (January 11); and a performance from famed poet, musician, and activist Ed Sanders (January 12).

Jesse Cook
Performing Arts Center at Rockwell Hall
Award-winning guitar phenomenon Jesse Cook returns to Rockwell Hall in support of his eighth studio album, The Blue Guitar Sessions. Based in Toronto, Canada, Cook has been recording and performing music internationally for more than 17 years. He is a Juno Award-winning artist and three-time recipient of the Canadian Smooth Jazz Award for Guitarist of the Year. Tickets are $35 for the lower tier; $30 upper tier; and $27 seniors and Buffalo State faculty and staff. Students can purchase $15 tickets one hour prior to the show. Fine Arts Student Show
Czurles-Nelson Gallery, Upton Hall
Fine arts students will exhibit their paintings, drawings, sculpture, and more. A reception with the artists will be held Thursday, February 7, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. outside the gallery where Philip Ogle, professor and chair of fine arts, will present awards.
