Students, faculty, staff, and alumni are invited to join the Alumni Association and the Communication Department on Monday, June 23, for a trip to the Chautauqua Institution to see television journalist and author Tom Brokaw.

“We are delighted to participate in this unique opportunity to see such an outstanding journalist,” said Deborah Silverman, associate professor of communication and chair of the department’s Alumni Relations Committee. “We encourage all students interested in journalism careers, as well as alumni, faculty, and staff familiar with Brokaw’s work, to join us.”

As anchor of the NBC Nightly News for more than two decades, Brokaw is one of the most familiar names in broadcast journalism. During his tenure as host and managing editor of the news program, Brokaw covered everything from natural disasters to triumphs of the human spirit. Along the way, he became one of the most respected news personalities in the country. Brokaw retired from the anchor desk in 2004, but has remained a special correspondent for NBC. He is the author of five best-selling books, including The Greatest Generation, and the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the Edward R. Murrow Lifetime Achievement Award.

Silverman noted that this is the first in a series of programs the department is planning to reconnect with alumni. Additional events will include a reunion held during Homecoming Weekend in September. The department is also reviving its alumni group to work with the Alumni Relations Committee. Those interested in participating should contact Silverman at silverda@buffalostate.edu

The cost for the Brokaw event is $30 per person and includes a ticket to lecture, Chautauqua pass, and transportation to and from the event. Departure (7:30 a.m.) and return (approximately 4:00 p.m.) will take place at Lot M-1 at Buffalo State. Register now.
