The Theater Department’s latest production is an inventive take on William Shakespeare’s classic, Julius Caesar. Performances begin Thursday, March 10.

Set in a not-so-distant future and swapping Rome for a location reminiscent of Washington, D.C., the production recasts the Bard’s tragedy—“Et tu?” and all. In this dramatic portrayal, a female uprising has overthrown the male-dominated government. Find out what happens when the Roman Empire confronts the women of the twenty-first century.

The play delves into themes related to current global affairs, mass marketing, and personal relationships.

“While the Ides of March is the haunting prophesy that pervades Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, perhaps our modern omen warns us of the intense complications inherent in attempting to balance governing from our hearts with governing from our minds,” said director Drew Kahn, chair and professor of theater.

The cast features Paul Gabriellini as Antony, Gabriela Moreno as Cassius, Danica Riddick (pictured) as Brutus, and Michael Zito as Caesar.

Performances run March 10-12 and 17-19 in Warren Enters Theatre, Upton Hall.

Evening performances take place Thursdays–Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. Matinee performances will be held Saturdays at 2:00 p.m.

Ticket prices are $15 general, $10 for faculty and staff, and $6 for students.
