A Look Ahead: This Week at Buffalo State
It’s hard to believe we’re almost halfway through the semester. There’s still a lot to do this week, including a community concert by Buffalo State’s Wind Ensemble, featuring classic wind band work from composers Vincent Persichetti, Chris Pilsner, William Schuman, and John Philip Sousa. Directed by Rick Fleming, professor of music, the concert will be held on Wednesday, October 16, at the Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts, 450 Masten Avenue in Buffalo, starting at 7:30 p.m.

Know Your Money, or No Money

Black Active Minds presents a discussion on financial literacy. Topics for discussion include strategies for spending and saving money properly. (Many student clubs and organizations hold events on a regular basis. Check Bengal Connect for more details.)

AFP Rwanda Information Session
2:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Come and learn more about a two-week study-away opportunity in Rwanda in July 2020. Participating students co-facilitate AFP’s story-based learning model at schools and organizations, engage in unique cultural experiences, and examine Rwanda’s peace and reconciliation practices. Graduate and undergraduate students are eligible, even those who plan to graduate in May 2020. Applications are available online and are due Friday, November 1.
IPDS Zambia Information Session

Join program leaders from the International Professional Development Schools (IPDS) Zambia program to learn more about a teach-and-study-away opportunity in Zambia in May-June 2020. Graduate and undergraduate students are eligible, even those who plan to graduate in May 2020. Applications are available online and are due November 1.
Meet and Greet with New Africana Studies Faculty Members

Attend this “teach-in” and reception to meet and mingle with our new Africana studies faculty members. Representing the disciplines of sociology, philosophy, anthropology, and Africana studies, the new PRODI-G hires are engaged instructors with research expertise in critical current issues, including hip-hop, reparations, and digital media. This Africana Studies Interdisciplinary Unit event is the first in an "Africana Studies Matters" series of events this fall and next spring.

President Katherine Conway-Turner will present highlights from the previous academic year and set the direction for the campus moving forward as Buffalo State College continues to advance excellence, engagement, and social responsibility as SUNY’s urban-engaged campus. All members of the campus community are encouraged to attend and to join in a reception following the presentation to greet new members of the faculty and staff.
