Update posted April 12: News feature on WIVB

Buffalo State’s 31st Take Back the Night event takes place on Wednesday, April 7, at 7:00 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center at Rockwell Hall.

This event, open to the entire campus community, is dedicated to giving voices back to survivors of sexual violence, according to Tammy Kresge, coordinator of health promotions for Weigel Health Center.

“It’s meant to be an empowering event,” said Kresge. “We want people to leave feeling like they can be part of the solution of violence prevention.”

The theme of this year’s event is “Do Something—Because You Should.” Kresge explained that sexual violence is a community problem. “Even though someone may not have been a victim,” she said, “they can make a difference in reducing all acts of violence including sexual assault, stalking, and domestic abuse.”
Take Back the Night will feature performances by a number of Buffalo State student organizations including SPIRIT Gospel Choir, Step Expressions, Casting Hall Productions, and Tha Ink Club. Individuals will share poetry and survivor stories. The event will end with a march through campus.
