Buffalo Public Schools Superintendent Marion Cañedo will give the keynote address at Buffalo State College's Career and Technical Education Program's annual awards banquet, to be held Friday, May 3, at 6:30 p.m. at Samuel's Grand Manor.

Robert Bennett, recently elected chancellor of the state Board of Regents, will receive the department's 2002 Lighthouse Award for his commitment and dedication of support and encouragement in fostering a working relationship between the community and the Career and Technical Education program at Buffalo State.

Undergraduate and graduate students who have maintained a grade point average of at least 3.5 will also be honored, and students will recognize a "teacher of the year" from their various departments.

Buffalo State's Career and Technical Education program prepares career and technical teachers to teach skills such as welding, agriculture, machining, cosmetology and culinary arts in city high schools, vocational schools, technical institutes, correctional facilities and community colleges. It provides theoretical and practical preparation in planning, instructing and managing the learning environment for students who have or will have extensive work experience in a specific trade.
