Maya Angelou to Speak at Buffalo State
Award-winning poet, playwright, author and civil-rights activist Maya Angelou will speak on Poetry: When Words Unite, at 7 p.m., Monday, May 3, in the Performing Arts Center at Buffalo State College.
Reynolds Professor of American Studies at Wake Forest University, Angelou is the author of 12 books, including I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, and A Song Flung Up to Heaven.
Hailed as one of the great voices in American contemporary literature, Angelou in 1993 became the second poet in American history to write and recite an original work for a presidential inauguration.
Tickets (free for Buffalo State College undergraduate students at one per student; $10 for faculty and staff; and $20 for the general public) are available from Buffalo State's Performing Arts Center box office, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., or by phone at (716) 878-3005.
