Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown, ’83, hosted the Buffalo State men's basketball team at City Hall last Wednesday to celebrate the Bengals SUNYAC Championship and run to the "Sweet 16" in the NCAA Tournament.

Mayor Brown issued proclamations to the Bengals' players and coaches summarizing the season and officially declared March 16, 2011, as “Buffalo State Men's Basketball Day” in the City of Buffalo.

The Bengals finished their season at 23-7, including winning the school's 18th SUNYAC Championship with a 67-50 win over Brockport.  Buffalo State went on to defeat both Gwynedd-Mercy and Johnson & Wales in the first and second rounds of the NCAA tournament to advance to the "Sweet 16" for the first time since 1996.  The Bengals 23 wins were the most in a season since 1991-92.
