Men's Basketball Blasts SUNYIT, 80-63

BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (8-10/3-7) had 14 players score in an 80-63 home victory over SUNYIT (6-12/1-8) today in a SUNYAC contest at the Sports Arena.

The Bengals sprinted to a 41-22 lead at halftime and never let SUNYIT closer than 13 points the rest of the way. Buffalo State shot 51-percent from the field for the game, while holding the Wildcats to just 33-percent. The Bengals outscored SUNYIT 54-20 in the paint and 44-20 off the bench.

John Lawal (Hempstead/Uniondale) led a balanced Bengals’ attack with 10 points. Jay Wingate (Henrietta/Rush-Henrietta) added eight points, a career-high 10 assists and six rebounds. Jay Newton (Jamestown/Jamestown) also had a career-high nine points, and Gregg Jones (Syracuse/Nottingham) and Jon Allport-Cohoon (Jamestown/Lockport) each scored eight.

Nick Grimmer (New Hartford/New Hartford) led SUNYIT with 19 points and eight rebounds. Chris Plante (Whitesboro/Whitesboro) added nine points, and Rich Phillips (Yorktown Hts./Morrisville St.) had eight.

Buffalo State will host Fredonia on Tuesday at 8 p.m.
