Men's Basketball Bows to Johns Hopkins, 97-88

BALTIMORE—Host Johns Hopkins (8-2) defeated Buffalo State (7-3), 97-88, despite 23 points from Gregg Jones (Syracuse/Nottingham), today in the championship game of the Blue Jay Classic.

The Blue Jays used an early 15-4 run to claim a 46-34 halftime advantage. Johns Hopkins led by as many as 20 in the second half, before hanging on for the nine-point win. The Blue Jays shot 56-percent from the field, compared to Buffalo State’s 48-percent shooting.

Jones shot 7 of 19 from the field and 2 of 6 from three-point range. James Williams (Brooklyn/William Grady) had 21 points and seven rebounds. Carlton Guiden (Bronx/Wade Hampton) added a career-high 19 points and three steals, and Jobany Tirado (Syracuse/Corcoran) scored 11 points.

Guiden and Williams were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Buffalo State will play Mary Washington on Friday at 6 p.m. in the first round of the Albright Tournament in Reading, Pa.
