Men's Basketball Claims Tourney Title With Win Over Chowan, 52-51
Buffalo State captured the York (PA) Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, defeating Chowan (NC) in today's title game by a 52-51 margin.
Buffalo State trailed 27-24 at halftime and was down by as many as eight points in the second half before rallying to edge the Braves in the closing minutes. Justin Konst's (Williamsville/Williamsville East) layup with 1:22 remaining proved to be the winning shot as neither team would put more points on the scoreboard. Konst led the Bengals with 12 points. Joshua Becker (Hamburg/Frontier) and Jon Allport-Cohoon (Lockport/Lockport) each tallied 10 points. Perry Davis (Buffalo/Seneca) added eight points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
The Bengals improved to 8-3 on the season and wrapped up their non-conference schedule with a 6-2 mark. Buffalo State will return to SUNYAC play next Friday when it will host New Paltz in a rematch of last year' SUNYAC Championship game won by the Bengals, 73-40.
