BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (2-1/1-0) overcame a 10-point deficit to defeat Oneonta (1-3/0-2), 65-62, in a SUNYAC men’s basketball contest tonight at the Sports Arena.

Oneonta took a 2-0 lead before the first second ticked off the clock, as the Bengals were tagged with a technical foul for dunking in warm-ups. The Red Dragons built the lead to as many as 10, before Buffalo State finally took its first lead at 52-51 with 6:32 remaining. Buffalo State would not relinquish the lead, thanks in part to a pair of clutch free throws by Jay Newton (Jamestown/Jamestown) with eight seconds to play.

Aaron Carter (Niagara Falls/Niagara Falls) led Buffalo State with 12 points and eight rebounds. Jay Wingate (Henrietta/Rush-Henrietta) and Gregg Jones (Syracuse/Nottingham) each added nine points. Newton finished with six points, all coming from the charity stripe. William Heslin led Oneonta with 14 points. Kevin Reed added 13 points, and Michael Reardon led the Red Dragons with nine rebounds.

New Paltz will visit the Buffalo State Sports Arena tomorrow at 4 p.m.
