Men's Hockey Clinches Home Ice for SUNYAC Quarterfinals; Beats Fredonia, 6-4
FREDONIA, NY--Buffalo State (12-11-2/6-7-1) defeated Fredonia (12-9-4/5-7-2), 6-4, tonight at Steele Hall to clinch the fourth seed in the SUNYAC playoffs and the right to host the first home playoff game in the program's history.
Jason Hill (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) led Buffalo State's offensive attack with two goals and two assists. D'Arcy Thomas (Gatineau, PQ/Philemon Wright) added two goals and an assist. Cody Cole (St. Catharines, ON/Denis Morris) and Joe Curry (Indian River, ON/Norwood) each had a goal and an assist. Paul Michael Rivest (Whitby, ON/Henry Street) and Michael DeMarco (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) chipped in two assists apiece.
Fredonia took its second lead of the game at 2-1 early in the second period, but Buffalo State answered just 1:15 later to even the score. The Bengals would never trail again, scoring three more second-period goals to take a 5-3 advantage into the final frame. After the Blue Devils cut the lead to one 3:52 into the period, Buffalo State added another insurance marker before the halfway point of the period.
Buffalo State outshot Fredonia, 26-25. Sean Sheehan (Mt. Laurel, NY/Lenape) made 21 saves for the Bengals. Fredonia was 3 for 9 on the power play, while Buffalo State was 2 for 6 with the man-advantage.
Buffalo State will host No. 5 Fredonia on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door for $5 for the public, $2 for Buffalo State students and $3 for other students.
