Buffalo State scored four unanswered goals over the final two periods and defeated Cortland, 4-2, in men’s SUNYAC ice hockey action Saturday night. With the win, the Bengals improved to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference, while the Red Dragons fell to 1-4-1 and 0-1-1.

Cortland had taken a 2-0 lead with goals in the first and second periods. Freshman Drew Reynolds scored his first goal of the season when he carried the puck in from the red line on a two-on-one and beat Buffalo St. junior goalie Sean Sheehan (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) at 16:23 of the opening period. Senior Tom Girard netted the Red Dragons’ second goal at 16:31 of the second period. Girard controlled the puck in front, deked Sheehan and roofed a shot for his third goal of the season

Twenty seconds later, the Bengals began their comeback as senior Nathan Yuronich (Lindstrom, MN/Chisago Lakes) swatted a rebound out of the air and past Cortland senior goalie Matt Meacham. Buffalo St. senior Mike Zalewski (Grand Rapids, MI/East Kentwood) tied the game with 1:57 remaining in the second period when he converted a two-on-one with a backhand shot.

Buffalo State netted the game winner at 5:11 of the third period with the teams skating five a side. Senior Greg Prybylski (Cheektowaga/Cheektowaga) one-timed a shotoff a pass from behind the net by freshman Jason Hill (Niagara Falls/Niagara Falls), who finished the game with two assists. Senior Sean Burke (Barrie, ON/St. Peter's) added an insurance goal on the power play at 17:19, putting his own rebound in an open net. Sheehan finished with 20 saves for the Bengals.

Buffalo State will host Geneseo in its home opener on Friday at 7 p.m.
