Buffalo State earned their third SUNYAC victory tonight with a 6-4 victory at home against the Brockport Golden Eagles. The Bengals improved to an overall record of 7-17-0 and a conference mark of 3-10 with the win.

Bengal sophomore Brian Janke (Anchorage, AK/Buffalo Lightning) put Buffalo State up 1-0 with his second goal of the season eight minutes into the game. Forward Mike Zalewski (Grand Rapids, MI/Bancroft Hawks) increased the Bengal lead to 2-0 after he buried the puck in the net on a pass from defender Sean O'Connell (Buffalo/Capitol Centre Pride). Zalewski also had two assists in the contest, one coming on the first Bengal goal and one on the eventual game-winning goal. The Golden Eagles closed the gap to 2-1 with a goal minutes before the end of the first period.

Buffalo State senior captain Mark Yoder (Ft. Wayne, IN/Grand Rapids) regained the Bengal's two goal lead with a powerplay goal early in the second. After a Brockport goal that put the Golden Eagles within one, Yoder again scored to put the Bengals up 4-2. Forward Morgan McElman (Bayside, NB/Elmira Jr. Jackals) netted the eventual game-winning goal with less then two minutes remaining in the period to put the Bengals up 5-2 at the start of the final frame.

Brockport scored two straight goals in the third period to close the gap to 5-4 with just under six minutes to play in regulation. Junior Josh Magnuson (Chisago, MN/Lincoln Stars) broke the back of the Golden Eagle's comeback with his seventh goal of the year to finish the game's scoring at 6-4. Freshman goaltender Shawn Sheehan (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Abitibi Eskimos) made 35 saves in net for the Bengals. Brockport's Scott Santora and Andy Reynolds combined for 44 saves in the loss.

Buffalo State's victory was not enough to get them into the playoffs as Fredonia upset Geneseo tonight to make it mathematically impossible for the Bengals to play in the post season. The Bengals will play their final game of the season Tuesday night when they host the visiting Fredonia Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m.
