Men's Hockey Tops Cortland to Open Season
Buffalo State went 4-of-10 on the power play as it defeated Cortland, 7-5, on its home ice tonight in the season opener for both teams.
The Bengals never trailed, as they took a 4-2 lead after two periods, and extended the margin to 7-3 before hanging on for the two-goal victory.
Junior-transfer Sean Burke (Barrie,ON/St. Peter's) led the Bengals offense with two goals and two assists. Mike DeMarco (Niagara Falls/Niagara Falls) and Greg Prybylski (Cheektowaga/Cheektowaga) also had big nights, as DeMarco had a goal and two assists, and Prybylski added four helpers. Defenseman Clay Lewis (Boca Raton, FL/Olympic Heights) also had a strong debut for Buffalo State, scoring twice. David Wilmert (Ada, MI/Forest Hills) and Josh Magnuson (Chisago, MN/Chisago Lakes) added a goal each for the Bengals, and Sean Sheehan (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) made 33 saves between the pipes.
Buffalo State will continue in the SUNYAC Challenge tomorrow when it will face Fredonia at 4 p.m.
