To the Buffalo State Community:

With a heavy heart, I regret to inform you that Buffalo State College student Bradley Doyley passed away at Buffalo General Medical Center last night. He was 21 years old.

Bradley, of Brooklyn, New York, was a business major on track to graduate this spring. He was a valued member of the Bengals men’s basketball team during his first two and a half years on campus and was well regarded by his peers, professors, and former coaches. His loss will undoubtedly be felt throughout our community. My heart goes out to his cherished family and friends.

Buffalo State Counseling Center staff members are available to support and talk with students, faculty, and staff struggling with this terrible loss. Campus community members should call 878-4436 if they would like to speak with a counselor, or know of a student who would benefit from speaking with a counselor.

Please join me in keeping the Doyley family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,

Katherine S. Conway-Turner
President
Buffalo State College

UPDATE from President Katherine Conway-Turner: February 19, 2016, 1:00 p.m.

Buffalo State College is aware of and continues to support the City of Buffalo Police Department’s investigation into an allegation of hazing involving Alpha Phi Alpha and Bradley Doyley at an off-campus location. While the investigation is conducted, the campus chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha has been suspended by both the college and the fraternity’s national governing body.

All recognized Greek letter organizations and their members are required by the college to abide by the student code of conduct, the campus Greek recognition and governance policies, and New York State anti-hazing laws. In addition to possible criminal prosecution, failure to abide by these rules can result in suspension or expulsion from Buffalo State.

Buffalo State takes great pride in its commitment to providing students with a civil and caring academic community. We do not and will not tolerate any student or campus organization that undermines our commitment to providing an environment for our students to flourish.

As the investigation is ongoing, please understand that I am unable to share any additional information at this time. However, I will keep you updated as the process allows.

President's blog: Honoring the Life of a Member of Our Community

Last Thursday, we lost a member of our Buffalo State community. Bradley Doyley’s life was filled with promise, and he was taken from us far too soon. Twenty-one-year-old Bradley was a senior and an active, engaged, and vivid member of our community in the classroom, on the basketball court, and in the residence halls.
