Nahabetian Shares Travels to Germany, Japan in Campus Talk

Tara Nahabetian, associate professor of design and coordinator of Buffalo State’s metals/jewelry program, will present "Taking Flight: Finding Adventure in the Unknown" on Thursday, November 19, at 12:15 p.m. in Upton Hall 230.

Nahabetian’s talk, which focuses on her recent travels to Germany and Japan, marks the third in the fall 2015 series, "Artists on the Road: Travel as Source of Inspiration" co-sponsored by the Design Department and the International and Exchange Programs Office.

A native of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Nahabetian said much of her traveling has focused on the art and architecture of the places she visits. "Placing myself in unfamiliar territory has made me a better observer," she said, adding that from each trip she returns energized, artistically stimulated, and interested in sharing these new experiences.

"There are new tastes, new smells, unexpected sounds, and landscapes that will linger in my memory and add resources to feed my creative work," she said.

During her trip to Germany, she visited art museums, historical palaces, and cathedrals, and walked in the Saxon Switzerland National Forest. In Tokyo, Japan, she participated in an invitational exhibition in Ginza and presented an artist lecture at the Tokyo University of Arts, Geidai, and the Kawaguchi Arts Center in Saitama Prefecture. 

"While staying in Tokyo, I was also able to visit historical temples, Japanese gardens, and galleries in the surrounding areas," she said.

Nahabetian received her bachelor of fine arts from Eastern Michigan University and her master of fine arts from Kent State University.
