NCAA Championships: Women’s Lacrosse Hosts Springfield

Buffalo State (13-6) has learned its season will be extended by at least one more game as it earned one of 32 spots in the NCAA Division III Women’s Lacrosse Championships as an at-large selection.  
 
The Bengals will make its first-ever NCAA playoff appearance, opening the tournament at home on Wednesday, May 9, at 3:00 p.m. against Springfield (11-7).
 
The Bengals advanced to their second-ever SUNYAC title game before falling 12-5 against nationally-ranked No. 2 Cortland. Buffalo State had won five-straight games before the loss to Cortland.
 
Buffalo State is led by Karen Shaddock (Corning/Corning East) who has set new school records with 96 goals and 134 points, and has moved into second on the NCAA Division III all-time scoring list with 441 career points.

Fellow senior Kendyl Clarkson (Painted Post/Corning West) bolsters the Bengals’ attack with a school record 80 assists and has 113 points. Junior Ashley Caporizzo (Liverpool/CNS) has also been consistent scoring threat with 45 goals and 57 points.  
 
Senior Jamie Handley (Auburn/Auburn) anchors Buffalo State’s defensive corps with 49 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers. First-year student Colleen George (Johnson City/Maine-Endwell) has recorded 12 wins between the pipes with a 12.48 GAA and a .380 save-percentage.
 
Tickets will be available at the gate for $5 for adults and $2 for students.
