In the News: Erin Gehen Makes Bengals History

Senior Erin Gehen recently made Buffalo State history. With 38 career assists, 88 career points, and her eighth point of the season, the women’s ice hockey forward became the first player in school history to score 50 career goals.

"I honestly did not know it was my 50th goal, but it was really cool to hear after," Gehen told WKBW-TV sports reporter Jenna Callari.

While her work on the ice has earned her Buffalo State Athlete of the Week and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) West Player of the Week awards, her performance in the classroom is even more impressive. The business major, who hails from West Seneca, New York, is consistently named to the dean’s list, has a 3.86 cumulative GPA, and recently attained a 4.0 for the fall semester.

Gehen shows true Bengal spirit by hoping another team member will best her scoring record. "I want this program to do wonders, I want this program to be the number one program in the nation," said Gehen. "It will be cool to have my name up there, but I hope somebody beats it!"

The women’s ice hockey team is on the road this weekend taking on the Potsdam Bears. The team returns to home ice against Oswego State on January 26 and 27.
