Nine Bengals Capture All-Conference Football Honors
Buffalo State had nine players selected to the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Football All-Conference team, including Greg Meyer (Lancaster/ Lancaster), Bob Vesona (Depew/ Depew) and Peter Nguyen (Buffalo/ South Park) who earned First Team honors.
Dan Aquilio (Depew/ Depew) and Tom LaPann (Glens Falls/ Glens Falls) were voted to the Second Team, and Dan Lopez (Lancaster/ St. Mary’s), Luke Ingram (Levittown/ MacArthur), Darryl Davis (Lancaster/ Lancaster) and Scott Forster (E. Otto/ Catt.-Little Valley) all received honorable mention recognition.
Meyer, who was a Second Team selection last season, led the NJAC with 887 receiving yards on 49 catches and scored a team-high 11 touchdowns this season. The junior health and wellness major had more than twice as many receiving yards as any other Bengal.
Vesona, a senior fullback, was recognized on the First Team for the second-consecutive season. The sociology major was second on the team with 276 rushing yards on 66 carries, and had 13 catches for 106 yards and a touchdown.
Nguyen, a senior cornerback, was a first time All-Conference pick, after ranking second in the league with six interceptions. A hospitality major, he had 61 tackles, including 46 solo stops and 10.5 tackles for loss, and an NJAC-best three fumble recoveries and three blocked kicks.
Aquilio, a senior quarterback majoring in business, threw for 1,882 yards and had 18 touchdowns. LaPann, a senior defensive end and art education major, was third on the team with 71 tackles and led the way with 6.5 sacks and 16.5 tackles for loss.
Lopez, a senior running back majoring in health and wellness, rushed for a team-high 656 yards and scored seven touchdowns, despite missing the final three games due to an injury. Ingram, a senior defensive tackle and art major, had 30 tackles including 4.5 for loss and two fumble recoveries. Davis, a senior linebacker majoring in health and wellness, led the Bengals with 83 tackles and had one interception and four forced fumbles. Forster, a senior safety and criminal justice major, was second on the team with 78 tackles and had two interceptions and a team-best 12 pass breakups.
Buffalo State finished the season 2-8 overall and 1-6 in NJAC play.
