BUFFALO, NY— Oswego (15-5-2/11-2-1) exploded for three second period goals to defeat host Buffalo State (10-10-3/5-6-3), 5-2, in a SUNYAC game tonight at Ice Arena.

The Lakers opened the scoring at 14:25, but the Bengals responded with 50 seconds remaining in the opening frame when Nick Petriello (St. Catharines, ON) scored his team-leading 12th goal of the season with assists from D’Arcy Thomas (Gatineau, PQ) and Joe Curry (Indian River, ON). Oswego pulled ahead to stay with three goals in the second period. The Bengals cut the deficit to 4-2 early in the third when Travis Whitehead (Cambridge, ON) netted an unassisted goal, but the Lakers added an insurance marker later in the stanza.

Oswego outshot Buffalo State, 33-25. Kyle Gunn-Taylor (W. Seneca, NY) made 28 saves in the loss.

Buffalo State will host Cortland tomorrow at 7 p.m. in a game with significant playoff implications.
