Noted Lawyer and Alumna Carolyn Lamm To Visit Campus: October 25

Buffalo State alumna and immediate past president of the American Bar Association (ABA) Carolyn Lamm, '70, will visit campus, Monday, October 25.

Lamm will present the Continuing Legal Education (CLE) seminar "The Role of Lawyers in Today's Changing World," Monday, October 25, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the Burchfield Penney Art Center’s Peter and Elizabeth C. Towers Auditorium. The discussion is free of charge.

In August, Lamm wrapped up a successful year of difference-making as president of the ABA. The ABA is the largest voluntary professional association in the world, representing nearly half a million members, and Lamm was only the fourth woman to lead the group in its 132-year history.

As president, Lamm led the effort to analyze information from the ABA’s nationwide hearings on diversity and to publish a “Next Steps” report, with companion podcasts. “Next Steps” includes specific recommendations for promoting diversity—racial, ethnic, gender, disability, sexual orientation—and eliminating bias throughout the profession.

In addition, she appointed commissions to examine two timely concerns: the impact of the global economic crisis on the legal profession, and the ethical issues relating to lawyers’ use of technology, including online law practices.

Lamm, a partner and international arbitration, litigation, and trade lawyer in the Washington, D.C., office of the global law firm White & Case LLP, was recently named one of the Legal Times' “Visionaries for 2010.” In 2007, the National Law Journal named her one of the “50 Most Influential Women in America.”
