'Ongoing Stories' Holocaust-themed Paintings on Exhibit

Buffalo artist Jeanette Shropshire has a compelling collection of Holocaust-themed oil paintings on display through September 13 in Upton Hall's Dr. Margaret Eschner Bacon Student Gallery. Her exhibit, Ongoing Stories, is part the fifth annual Anne Frank Project, September 11–13, a social justice conference held at SUNY Buffalo State.

The Holocaust exhibit is the latest in a series of paintings and sculptures the artist (pictured at left) has created over the past two decades that capture historic events and situations. Others include Apartheid, Please, and Homeless. Shropshire's work has been exhibited in CEPA Gallery, El Museo Franciso Oller y Diego Rivera, Pyramid Art Gallery, Hallwalls, and the Buffalo History Museum and is in the Burchfield Penney Art Center's permanent collection.

The Bacon Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Admission is free. A reception with the artist will take place, Tuesday, September 10, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Upton Hall foyer. Shropshire also will give an artist’s talk on Thursday, September 12, from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. in the gallery. Both events are free and open to the public.
