Percussion Concert December 7 to Aid Food Bank of WNY

A percussion concert featuring solo performances by Brad Fuster (pictured below), associate professor and chair of the Music Department, supported by student members of the Buffalo State Percussion Ensemble, will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 96 Jewett Parkway in Buffalo, on Friday, December 7, at 7:30 p.m.

The concert is a fundraiser for the Food Bank of Western New York and has a $10 suggested donation.

“At this time of year in particular, it’s great to support a worthy cause through performance,” said Fuster.

The concert’s program includes a wide range of musical selections—from a traditional Mexican piece to an experimental work by composer John Cage—played in ensemble and solo formats.

Fuster will tackle Christopher Deane’s complex “Etude for a Quiet Hall” as a solo marimba feature. “It’s a monstrously difficult piece,” said Fuster. “One hand is playing extended rolls which require two mallets, while the other hand is playing a counter melody. It’s extremely difficult, but it’s great when it works!”
