Clyde Tombaugh was barely 23 years old and had only a high school education when he arrived at the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona. But 13 months later, he made a discovery that shook the world – he found the ninth planet, Pluto.
At 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18 – the 76th anniversary of Tombaugh’s momentous discovery -- Buffalo State College’s Whitworth Ferguson Planetarium will present “Pluto: The History and Fate of the Ninth Planet.”
Planetarium Operator Stephen DuBois will tell the story of Pluto’s discovery, its history and its fate, and also talk about the recently launched New Horizons spacecraft that will be the first to visit Pluto and its moon, Charon, in July 2015.
Admission to the program, which will run about one hour, is $5 at the planetarium door. Parking is available off Iroquois Drive in Lot S1 next to the Science Building.
