Polka and Wierzbicki Earn SUNYAC Volleyball Honors

The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announced that Buffalo State's Monica Polka (Youngstown/Lewiston-Porter) and Krista Wierzbicki (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) were selected to its 2002 All-Conference Volleyball Team.

Polka, a senior middle hitter, was named the SUNYAC West Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. She led the Bengals with 588 kills and 140 blocks and finished her career as Buffalo State's all-time leader in attacks (4,457), kills (1,981), attack percentage (.258), blocks (750) and aces (203).

Wierzbicki, a junior setter, was named to the honorable mention list. She became just the second Bengal to surpass the 1,000-assist mark in a single season with 1,110. She also led the Bengals with 70 aces and is the school's all-time leader with 2,509 assists.

Buffalo State concluded the season with a 23-12 record and advanced to the SUNYAC playoffs for the second straight season. The 23 wins was the third highest win total in the program's 24-year modern history.
