Potsdam Skates Past Men's Hockey, 5-3

Potsdam's Ryan McCarthy netted four goals to lead the Bears (9-12-1/5-6-0) past Buffalo State, 5-3, tonight in a SUNYAC game at the Ice Arena.

The Bengals opened the scoring midway through the opening period when Mike Zalewski (Grand Rapids, MI/East Kentwood) scored on his former team. Buffalo State extended its lead to 2-0 early in the second period on a goal by Matt Samson (W. Vancouver, BC/W. Vancouver).

Potsdam got on the board later in the period with a goal by Phil Aubry, and then pulled even an then into the lead with four straight goals by McCarthy.

Sean Castagna (San Jose, CA/Bellarmine Prep) added a goal for Buffalo State, but the Bengals would come no closer, despite outshooting Potsdam, 38-25 for the game.

Pat Lemay and Kevin Tessier had four and three assists respectively for Potsdam. Sean Burke (Barrie, ON/St. Peter's) had two assists for Buffalo State.

The Bengals fell to 5-15-2 overall and 1-8-2 in SUNYAC play. Buffalo State will complete its home schedule tomorrow night when it hosts Plattsburgh at 7 p.m.
